Adolph Maximillian Ace Gartner
Personal Therapy Dog Extraordinaire

6/3/01 - 3/26/07
Max developed cancer while I was gone at college and due to his condition needed to be put to sleep as soon as possible. I flew home from California that night and had a couple of hours to spend with him until the vet office closed the next day. At least I was able to make it back in time to see him, though the reunion was far from the one I had hoped for upon my return from school. Rest in Peace Max, you will be with me always.

Here is a video I was almost finished with for one of my classes - most of the black Poodles featured are Max: Poodles as Assistance Dogs

Max was my first dog that I could keep (I had raised a service dog Poodle when I was 11). I purchased Max from a backyard breeder when I was 13 and didn't know much about the Dog World... not even how to name a dog, lol! Max is a great companion and loves everyone he knows, but doesn't like strangers or large dogs - which makes him a little difficult to show in obedience, but we've been doing well in 4-H (I almost always keep him in on-lead classes). Max's conformation is also quite poor and he can't stand squarely, which has proven an obstacle in 4-H showmanship, despite the 'corrective' grooming I do.

Max kicked-off his rally debut receiving 2nd place at a Specialty show!

Max is a very smart dog: last time I counted (when he was 18 months old) Max knew 80 commands and he's learned many more since! He LOVES to learn and since he understands full sentences teaching new tricks is very easy - I just tell him what I have in mind and he does it. And he sure has a way with words - this guy *talks* about everything under the sun to anyone who'll listen...WooWOOOwoahwoo...
